Safely Remove Landscape Debris from Your Construction Site

Remove landscape debris from new construction projects
Transforming a bare plot of land into a beautiful home or development leaves behind a fair amount of debris -- both construction debris as well as landscaping debris. Most of this debris is composed of inert materials such as concrete, stone, brick, asphalt, and dirt that can be recycled or reused. However, there is also a fair amount of organic matter in landscaping debris, including leaves, grass clippings, and tree limbs. While much of this organic matter can be used for composting, some of it may be too large or too wet to compost easily. As a result, it is important to know how to dispose of landscaping debris properly.
Prep Your Job Site to Receive Landscaping
Once you have completed your construction project and you're ready to prepare the ground to receive your landscaping, here are the next steps to insure the site is safe to plant and run heavy equipment:
- Request utility companies to mark the underground lines on your property. This should be done before you dig any holes for planting or construction.
- Pull permits with the city or county ahead of any grading or excavating
- Clear the site of any debris or vegetation, using a Bobcat or other heavy equipment. Be sure to leave the topsoil intact as this will be used for planting.
- Rough grade the site, leveling off any high spots and filling in any low spots.
- Install any drainage systems that are needed to prevent flooding and erosion problems later on.
- Install hardscape features like retaining walls, patios, and sidewalks.
- Finish grading the site and prepare it for planting – tilling the soil, adding amendments, and spreading mulch.
- Call a construction debris hauler to haul away any large rocks, tree limbs or other waste, and clean up the job site to showcase a beautiful property!
